چکیده

Studies of the most surficial sedimentary record from passive continental margins provide crucial knowledge about dynamics and its changes through recent geological times. These studies allow understanding in detail influence both tectonic activity long-term bottom-current circulation over Late Quaternary dynamics. Using a large dataset multibeam bathymetry, chirp multi-channel seismic (MCS) records, ROV seabed direct observations magneto-chemical facies characterisation, we well-dated tectono-sedimentary processes on an isolated high marginal platform Quaternary. Our results display several structural geomorphological features pulses that indicate intense faulting, folding, deformation cover. Furthermore, document four main systems acting at study area controlled by different water masses (MOW, LSW NADW): (hemi)pelagic, bottom current-controlled contourite downslope systems; as well new typology associated to giant depressions, named pockmarks-related drift. The also shows erosive extremely low sedimentation rates for last 172 cal ka BP. Results suggest topographic configuration reorganizations climate causes constriction induce enhancement activity, favouring erosion, winnowing redistribution sediments. Therefore, this provides insight into control current effect cover elevate offshore morphostructural province, located Galician Continental Margin.

Modeling Sedimentary Deposits on the Continental Margin

A first objective is to investigate the fabric (pattern) of seabed stratification on continental margins at small time and space scales (1 cm-50 cm depth into the seabed; 1 hr-3 yrs sedimentary record). To this end, we are testing the hypothesis that on muddy shelves such as the northern California shelf, Holocene event stratigraphy consists of the deposits of high-concentration storm regimes a...

Sediment distribution and sedimentary processes across the Antarctic Wilkes Land margin during the Quaternary

The study of existing cores collected across the Wilkes Land margin provides us with a better understanding of the sediment distribution and processes across this margin during the Holocene, and during Pleistocene glacial and interglacial cycles. Holocene depositional rates are high in deep (>1000m) inner-shelf basins where diatomaceous ooze is deposited at estimated minimum sedimentation rates...

Lacustrine sedimentary organic matter records of Late Quaternary paleoclimates

Identification of the sources of organic matter in sedimentary records provides important paleolimnologic information. As the types and abundances of plant life in and around lakes change, the composition and amount of organic matter delivered to lake sediments changes. Despite the extensive early diagenetic losses of organic matter in general and of some of its important biomarker compounds in...

Sedimentology, mineralogy and sedimentary geochemistry of the Late Quaternary sedimentary sequence of Gavkhoni Playa by looking at the paleoclimate

The sediments of the Playa Lake are sensitive indicators of local climates that any change in climate, hydrology, and sedimentary environment will cause changes in the physical and chemical properties of the sediments. These sediments create a valuable and important archive with high resolution to examine these changes in the past. One method of studying climate change during quaternary and oft...

Th normalization: An essential tool for interpreting sedimentary fluxes during the late Quaternary

[1] There is increasing evidence indicating that syndepositional redistribution of sediment on the seafloor by bottom currents is common and can significantly affect sediment mass accumulation rates. Notwithstanding its common incidence, this process (generally referred to as sediment focusing) is often difficult to recognize. If redistribution is near synchronous to deposition, the stratigraph...
